ShapeGrabber Launches Revolutionary 3D Inspection System

System Delivers Fast and Automated 3D Inspection

FABTech 2003, Chicago, IL - November 16, 2003 ShapeGrabber Incorporated today unveiled its revolutionary AI810 automated inspection system at FABTech - introducing speed, ease of use and accuracy to the inspection process. This leading edge laser scanning technology will allow manufacturers of formed metal and molded plastic components to finally automate inspection, reducing their costs and improving their product quality.

The AI810 is the first optical system to offer both traditional 2 dimensional inspection such as hole to hole, diameter and edge-to-hole measurements, as well as 3-dimensional inspection which compares the measured part directly to a 3D CAD file, in a shop floor ready product.

"The ShapeGrabber^® AI810 will revolutionize inspection in terms of ease-of-use, flexibility and throughput", says Marc Bisson, President & CEO of ShapeGrabber. "For instance, in a sheet metal shop, an operator will be able to inspect in 2D the location of holes punched, the presence or absence of pressed-in parts, prior to bending. After bending the part, the operator when use the AI810 again to compare surface locations and how they relate to each other directly to a 3D CAD file. Both operations are done in minutes, not days nor hours."

At the heart of the AI810 lies ShapeGrabber's leading-edge laser scanning technology and a flexible motion platform that allows the operator to optionally configure the system for the part at hand. For simple parts, the system can be set to scan in a single pass, while for more complex components, several scans are performed automatically from various sides and are stitched together without operator intervention.
