Shelley Automation Signs On as Canadian Distributor of ShapeGrabber Industrial 3D Laser Scanners

Trusted Canadian supplier and integrator of advanced automation technologies for manufacturers adds ShapeGrabber automated 3D metrology solutions to its offerings.

7 August 2012 Ottawa & Toronto, Canada – ShapeGrabber, a pioneering innovator of industrial 3D laser scanners for quality inspection and measurement headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and Shelley Automation, distributors of technologically advanced automation products across Canada and headquartered in Toronto, today announced a distribution agreement.

Shelley Automation will add the ShapeGrabber line of 3D laser scanners to the stable of solutions it offers to Canadian manufacturers. The agreement advances a decade-long relationship between the companies, as Shelley Automation supplies ShapeGrabber with many of the motion control components used in the manufacture of its 3D scanners.

Pierre Aubrey, CEO at ShapeGrabber, said: “We are very pleased to bring on Shelley Automation as a Canadian distributor. We have worked with the company for more than a decade and know what a fantastic, professional organization they are. We’re thrilled to have such an exceptional company represent us and are excited to have new resources to increase our presence within the domestic manufacturing sector.”

Brian Shelley, Co-President and CEO at Shelley Automation, said: “ShapeGrabber’s automated industrial 3D scanners are an excellent addition to our range of products that bring advanced automation to manufacturers. ShapeGrabber 3D laser scanners provide manufacturers with another means to enhance productivity and achieve continuous improvement in the quality control cycle.”

Shelley Automation’s optical offerings already include fully automated, online vision systems. With the ShapeGrabber product line, Shelley enhances another element of its customers’ complete quality control process: the metrology lab. With a higher level of automation and modern optical tools for measurement, manufacturers can use the 3D scanners to dramatically reduce inspection time, provide rapid whole-part inspection, and troubleshoot the really tough quality problems.

Offering many times the speed of traditional dimensional measurement techniques such as calipers, gauges and coordinate measurement machines (CMMs), ShapeGrabber’s 3D scanners are used for industrial quality inspection to measure complex shapes that are otherwise too time consuming, costly or simply impossible to measure. They are particularly valuable for inspecting and measuring complex plastics, metal castings and stamped parts that features compound curves and multiple features.
